The Purpose of Conscience Cleansing

A defiled conscience cannot be cleansed by religious effort, moral reform, or outward ceremony—it can only be cleansed by the once-for-all blood of Jesus Christ. In Hebrews 9:11–14, we see Christ as the greater High Priest who offered Himself to secure eternal redemption and cleanse His people from dead works. And He cleanses us not merely so that we can feel forgiven, but so that we can freely and faithfully serve the living God.
